Biography

Victoria is the Research Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Advisor for the Office of Research Services and the Metal Earth initiative; she is also an instructor in the Faculty of Arts. As Research EDI Advisor, she is responsible for working with various stakeholders within Laurentian University to support practices of inclusion and equity for researchers, faculty, students, and staff. Victoria is coordinating the development of the Canada Research Chair Equity, Diversity and Inclusion action plan, leading facilitations for EDI-related issues within the university, and consulting and engaging with community members on EDI gaps.

Victoria earned her PhD in Sociology and Equity Studies in Education (SESE) from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto in 2011. She also earned a Master’s degree from SESE in 2009.  She is the author of Gendered Bodies and Public Scrutiny: Women’s Stories of Staring, Strangers, and Fierce Resistance (Women’s Press 2021). Her research on identity and privilege in higher education has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, such as Teaching in Higher Education, Pedagogy, Culture and Society, and Gender, Place and Culture. She is also the co-editor of Virtual Identities and Digital Culture (Forthcoming from Routledge 2023).
