Death and Immortality in the Religions Of the East

This course examines constructions of the problem of death and plans of salvation in Asian religion, in the traditions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism and Confucianism. Topics explored include disposal of the dead, the preservation of the body, funerary ritual, death-related art and architecture, ancestor worship and the veneration of the "very special dead."
