Radiation Biophysics and Protection

The primary interest of the course will be on the effect of radiation on living systems. The course will cover in detail the interactions of radiation (both ionising and non-ionising) at the molecular, sub-cellular, cellular and tissue-organ levels. Factors (physical, chemical, and biological) that could modify the changes following irradiation will be described in depth. Radiation protection and the issue of radiation and environment will be discussed in the light of the hazards and benefits involved in the use of ionising radiation. Prerequisite: PHYS 5606 or permission of the instructor. cr 3
