The Pacific in the Age of Empire

This course explores the history of the Pacific from the peopling of Polynesia to 1918, with special emphasis on the development of Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Northwest, and the islands of the South Pacific. Topics covered include the environmental impact of human settlement, Native-European relations, and the rise and fall of societies and states.
